Where: Colt Creek State Park, 16000 SR 471, Lakeland, FL 33809
Katie MacMillen will be our guide for a walk through the park to admire the fall wildflowers. Many tributaries run through Colt Creek and there are also 3 lakes within this beautiful park. Many native species of wildlife call Colt Creek home, including Bald Eagles and many bird and butterfly species.

August 13, 7PM - Movie Night, "Sex, Lies and Butterflies." Join us for a fun evening and explore the astonishing survival techniques of butterflies.
July's Nature Coast meeting at Heritage Park Community Center, July 9th, "Propagation of Native Plants." Questions were answered about propagating native plants; by seed, by cuttings and by air-layering, and when to transplant seedlings. Members David and Eileen talked about many details: soil, methods, moisture, when where and how. Eileen Hart, a 30 year veteran of horiculture and David Barnard, Cypress Acres Nursey owner, shared their expertise.
Tuesday, June 11th Joel Jackson explained reasons for the decline of Florida wildlife.
Joel Jackson is a Tampa native who became the first Peace Corps Volunteer from the Tampa Bay Area in 1962. He received a BA and MBS in Urban Management from the University of South Florida and worked with the City of Tampa's Parks Department as a planner and manager in serveral areas for many years. Joel is an active member of the Tampa Audubon Society and the Florida Native Plant Society. In 2016 he received the FNPS "Palmetto" award for public service.

Restoring our Springs: What Will it Take?
Speaker Eugene Kelly. Many of Florida's world famous springs have been degraded by reductions in flow and dramatic declines in water quality. We discussed specific restoration actions and what measures the FDEP, Southwest Florida Water Management District and local governments are taking to restore our springs.
Eugene Kelly is a conservation biologist with more than 30 years of experience in Florida. He currently serves as Chair of the Florida Native Plant Society's Policy and Legislation Committee and as Vice-Chair of the Good Neighbor Trail Advisory Committee.
